The organisers of Nottinghamshire County Show are encouraging children to craft bee-inspired poetry, get creative designing rosettes and share their snaps of Nottinghamshire’s natural beauty in order to win prizes for their schools.
The competition has been launched in the run-up to the show, which takes place at the Newark Showground on May 9, in conjunction with the creation of a new free school resource designed to inspire people to find out more about the countryside.
The resource pack is filled with imaginative classroom activities, resources for teachers, and nine hands-on competitions for budding storytellers and young artists aged 4-14, plus one for adults.
As well as individual prizes, there are three major prizes available for the schools, including a trip to Bestwood Environmental Education Centre or Perlethorpe, a visit from a climbing wall and school trips to White Post Farm.
There are also family tickets for the county show up for grabs and £100 adventure vouchers for Notts Adventures.
Nottinghamshire County Show’s events manager Elizabeth Halsall said: “Education has always been at the heart of the show and our new resource pack gives schools a fun and engaging way to bring farming and the countryside into the classroom.
“There are plenty of ideas to encourage pupils and families to get creative and learn more about rural life and where our food comes from, with some exciting hands-on prizes for the schools who the biggest number of pupils involved.”
The resource pack is free to download and includes guidance for teachers, entry details for each competition and curriculum-friendly activities that can be completed in school or at home.
All competition entries must be submitted by March 31 and for more information and to download the School Resource Pack, visit www.nottinghamshirecountyshow.com
